the cat from outer space

I met this really, super, nice guy named Pete once. He lived in a big house with a bunch of friends in Vancouver because they made this really good movie and it won an award. Pete brought a copy of it for Sarah and I and we watched it many times because it was so good:

Now Pete is involved in making this puppy. I can't wait to go see it when it plays at the Royal. If anyone wants to go, let me know!

i'm not your money, man

I'm not in love with the video, but this sorta-supergroup including Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver), Gayngs, has a really nice sound.

My dad, Ed, is obsessed with Jim Croce (1943-1973) and since you usually like what your parents listened to when you were little, I am as well. Croce's greatest hits has been the only cd in my dads car since cd players came with cars, and my nephew relates his car with Jim Croce, saying "Papa, put on the loonie song" (we have no clue why he calls it the loonie song, but this means any Croce song) and they seat dance and listen to it the duration of the ride.

Jim Croce was a great musician, with better lyrics then any other musician whose lyrics I've paid attention to. His biggest hits were Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, Operator and Time In A Bottle.
Jims life was cut short, dying at the age of 30 in a plane accident along side his bestfriend, and fellow musician (they played backing guitar for one another) Maury Muehleise (shown above with Croce, he was only 24), his booking agent, a comic by the name of George Stevens who was the current warm up act for the two, the pilot and another passenger Dennis. Jim left behind his wife Ingrid (nie. Jacobson, Croce converted to Judaism for Ingrid, SO romantic) and their son A.J. (half blinded due to a brain tumor musician and doppelganger of Jim). Ingrid now owns a restaurant and jazz bar Croce's, a dream of the couples, in San Diego.

Suggested Listening:
Don't Mess Around With Jim
I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song
Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy)
I Got A Name
One Less Set of Footsteps

i wanna believe you

I heard today that the drummer of You Say Party, We Say Die, Devon Clifford, passed away early this morning at the age of 31. I feel terrible for his band, his friends, and family. I feel really badly because about a month ago I twittered something along the lines of not getting why people liked YSPWSD cause I thought they were awful. In turn they found this post and replied to me "we keep asking ourselves that same question....HAHAHA". In actuality I never even really listened to them, passed their stage when they were playing at Osheaga, and really just never gave them a chance, disliking them for no reason. Today I spend some time listening to their album, and they're really not that bad. So I apologize for my unwarranted tweet Devon and YSPWSD, and send nothing but the most positive thoughts.

My pal Sara Cwynar is a pretty amazing artist and girl. She has her grad show this Sunday, April 18th.

keep your hands off of my baby

I used to be obsessed with romance and love, and now that
I am in love I stopped because I felt I couldn't be both partaking
and gawking. I am still in love but I think I have to, need to,
fall back in love with love, you know?

"they are fucking dolls"

tonight I watched DOLLS (1987) and it is intense and terrifying. the music makes it very Are You Afraid of the Dark but the "little people" make it next level scary. this really scary couple that have an inn and turn the guests into dolls. the little girl Judy in it isn't the cutest child of life, so you don't really feel terrible for her (the cheesy punk rock girls are pretty great though), but her parents are so mean to her that she starts to wear you down. every doll is pretty great and i would love any of them except for the punch doll, the mean dad doll and all the clowns.
